Cooperative and responsible finance in an international webinar
On the 17th of June the twelfth edition of the workshop with 20 scholars from all over the world
The challenges and prospects for growth of cooperative and responsible finance are at the center of the 12th annual workshop on the subject, organized online on June 17th by Euricse in collaboration with Federcasse (Italian Federation of Cooperative Credit Banks) and the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento, with the support of EACB (the European Association of Co-operative Banks). Four sessions with 20 scholars and researchers representing 22 universities and research centers will discuss the potential for innovation in the sector. The event will be closed by a roundtable on the impact of the Covid pandemic on the banking system.
The increasing attention towards an economy based not only on material products, but also on relationships, combined with demographic changes and various states’ fiscal crises, opens growth opportunities for activities requiring investments in health and healthcare, social and personal services, online assistance, green industry, and environmental protection. This trend has become even more important because of the recent pandemic, which has weakened the global economy as a whole and increased domestic and international imbalances, jeopardizing social cohesion and international relations. Cooperative and ethical banks, alternative funds and financial institutions that have invested in social innovation have thus shown great potential. These are the premises of the workshop organized by Euricse, the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento, Federcasse and EACB on the 17th of June, 2021.
During the online workshop, scholars from universities and centers will discuss about social finance institutions, cooperative banks and digitalization. A broad overview on regional banking systems will be provided as well: from German regional cooperative banks to rural credit cooperatives in Russia and financial services for poor farmers in Thailand.
The workshop, which will be opened by Silvio Goglio and Flavio Bazzana representing Euricse and the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento, will be closed by a roundtable on the impact of the Covid pandemic on the banking system, with the participation of Sergio Gatti, general director of Federcasse, and Volker Heegeman, head of legal department at EACB.
