This work, based on a qualitative survey regarding a representative sample of 1,000 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, sought to identify the degree of entrepreneurs’ knowledge about the Small Business Act (SBA) and recent industrial policy measures, as well as to analyze their most recent economic performance and the main competitiveness factors, both internal and external. Specifically, this study presents the main results for the approximately 180 cooperative enterprises surveyed in comparison with non-cooperative enterprises in order to highlight any behavioral differences. An attempt was then made to provide some policy suggestions aimed primarily at disseminating, both at the central and peripheral levels, information on the main industrial policy measures adopted, as well as fostering a greater climate of confidence among business operators.
