For the development of agricultural cooperatives in Africa

27 March 2017

The report is an important resource that will help organisations increase the effectiveness of their interventions by comparing strategies implemented in the interventions and context of reference.

Which factors help and which, instead, hinder the creation of agricultural cooperatives in the African continent? What can we learn from cooperative development programmes promoted by organisations from the North American and European co-operative movement? What legal, economic and political opportunities and challenges did they encounter in the countries where the programmes are implemented?

The answers to these questions can be found in the newly published research report on “Processes and Policies for Co-operative Development Promoters in Africa” by Euricse in collaboration with OCDC (U.S. Overseas Cooperative Development Council) and USAID.

The study also includes a mapping of the cooperative development projects in the agricultural sector by part of the 15 organisations that participated in the study, to which the national studies of four countries were added: Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Senegal.
