Starting from the mission of foundations of banking origin (FOBs), the result of the privatizations of Italian public banks that began in 1990, the quality of the work of these entities is assessed, applying a model of analysis that considers their philanthropic activities, investment activities of resources derived from the total or partial divestment of holdings in former public banks (transferee banks), governance and transparency. The results are summarized with a qualitative rating. A varied picture emerges, with clear room for improvement in the effectiveness of the activities of foundations of banking origin for the benefit of the territories of reference, but also with behaviors implemented so far on the whole appreciable and sustainable.
