Euricse participates in a European project aimed at promoting cooperative entrepreneurship

Euricse was endorsed by the European Commission to participate in a project that will analyse and implement entrepreneurship education programs based on the cooperative business model

The initiative will promote a cooperative spirit and entrepreneurship skills of high school and university students from all over Europe in order to improve their employability.

Trento, May 4th. The project ECOOPE – Entrepreneurial Cooperative Experience – co-funded by the European Commission with a total budget of over 300.000€ was launched in April 2017 with the aim of improving the employability of young people in Europe by providing them with relevant entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to promote the set-up of cooperatives. Euricse will bring their expertise to this project together with six other institutions from Finland, United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Spain. (more…)

“Mutual, co-operative and co-owned business” is the title of The Oxford University Press Handbook edited by Jonathan Michie, University of Oxford (UK), Joseph R. Blasi, Rutgers University (USA), and Carlo Borzaga, University of Trento (Italy) is now available.

The handbook analyses, describes, and explains the complex world of organisations that assign ownership rights and governance control to stakeholders other than investors. The complexity of this set of organisations results both from the different degree of control exerted by stakeholders in each typology, and from different legislative and regulatory frameworks that govern these organisational forms. Towards a European Statute for Social and Solidarity-Based Enterprise

A chat with Professor Antonio Fici about his latest study for the European Parliament. “The hope is to now move from theory to practice, meaning concrete legislative initiatives which identify and promote social enterprises.”

Social enterprises (SE) are subject to ad hoc legislation in an increasing number of EU jurisdictions, and legislative initiatives in this field are under consideration by EU institutions. With the aim of deepening the understanding of this topic, the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs of the European Parliament commissioned, oversaw and published, just a few days ago, the study entitled “A European Statute for Social and Solidarity-Based Enterprise”. JEOD: the new issue of the review is out

The new issue (Volume 5, Issue 1)  of the international scientific review The Journal of Entrepreneurial and Organizational Diversity (JEOD) is now available online. It is a double blind peer refereed review which publishes theoretical as well as empirical researches on the entrepreneurial phenomenon from different perspectives (economics, sociology, political sciences, law).

Euricse and ILO join forces toward improving cooperative statistics

This joint initiative is part of the global effort around improving cooperative statistics. The 19th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) held in Geneva from in October 2013 recognized the importance of having more comprehensive and internationally comparable statistics on the cooperatives by adopting a resolution for advancing work on the topic. HIGHLIGHTS 2016

The end of the year is a time to look back at what we’ve accomplished and gather new ideas for projects and activities for the year to come, without losing sight of our main goal: to create knowledge and enrich the debate on the cooperative business model in order to demonstrate its relevance in modern economic and social systems. 2016 was a fruitful year at Euricse and we’d like to share some of the key results with you.

Social enterprises and their eco-systems: developments in Europe

The number of social enterprises in Europe is increasing and they are engaging in new fields. Many countries are introducing new legislation as well as new support schemes to boost the development of social enterprises.

Both public and private markets offer new opportunities for social enterprises to start up and grow, reveals the new report “Social enterprises and their eco-systems: developments in Europe” published by the European Commission. Key findings from the World Co-operative Monitor 2016

 

The World Co-operative Monitor 2016 is the fifth edition of the annual research report produced by the International Co-operative Alliance (the Alliance) with the scientific and technical support of Euricse. The research, widely considered the primary source for global statistics on the economic dimensions of the co-operative movement, includes a new feature in 2016: an analysis of the capital structure of the Top 300 co-operative enterprises. Also included in this year’s edition is a special section focusing on consumer co-operatives within the Wholesale and retail trade sector. (more…)

Euricse and C-Bird for social enterprises in Serbia

“Could networking be a way to empower social enterprises in Serbia?” was the title of a full day training dedicated to social enterprises that was held in Belgrade on October 7th. The event is organised as a part of Aleksandra Bobic’s secondment in the “Zip Centar za mlade biznis inkubator DOO” Pirot – Serbia within the C-BIRD project and is supported by all the main actors involved in the promotion of social enterprises in Serbia participating in the Coalition for the development of social enterprises.
